A Statement from Grant Oliphant, President and CEO, Prebys Foundation:

With any project of this scale and complexity, questions, concerns and differing perspectives are part of the process. They are not a reason to retreat from an ambitious vision — they are a reason to keep listening, engaging and doing the hard work together.

Prebys Foundation, alongside the Downtown San Diego Partnership, the San Diego Community College District, and the many civic, community and public-sector partners who have contributed their ideas and expertise, has been committed to ongoing community and stakeholder engagement around the future of the Civic Center. We are grateful to everyone who has participated in this process, including those raising important questions about how we move forward.

We remain committed to staying at the table with the City, public agencies, labor, community partners and other stakeholders as the details and potential paths forward are explored. Our interest has always been rooted in what is possible for San Diego: transforming an underused civic asset into a more vibrant, welcoming and connected place that serves the entire community for generations to come.

Getting there will require collaboration, patience, and a willingness to work through legitimate questions together. We believe that work — and the opportunity it represents for San Diego — is worth pursuing.”
