Nationally Respected Foundation Executive Joins the Foundation as Chief Impact Officer

Kaberi Banerjee Murthy Brings Passion for Social Change to San Diego’s Largest Private Foundation

With a deep personal commitment to shifting power within philanthropy to amplify social change, and with more than two decades of foundation executive management experience, Kaberi Banerjee Murthy is bringing her passion and expertise to the role of chief impact officer for The Conrad Prebys Foundation.

Banerjee Murthy previously served as the chief impact officer for Meyer Memorial Trust in Oregon, where she has served on the executive team and has led strategy, advocacy, grantmaking and evaluation to transform the $1.2 billion trust into a nationally respected force for racial and gender justice. Prior to joining the Meyer Memorial Trust, she served as the vice president of programs at the Brooklyn Community Foundation, where she led strategy and implementation of grantmaking, programs and advocacy. Banerjee Murthy also led grantmaking and strategy for education, arts and civic affairs as a program director at Crown Family Philanthropies in Chicago.

Leveraging her previous experiences, Banerjee Murthy will work directly with CEO Grant Oliphant, CFO Gil Alvarado, and strategic partnerships advisor Julie Dubick, to define the foundation’s vision and strategy for bold and varied approaches to investing place-based philanthropic capital to achieve the greatest possible impact for the community. In addition, she will steer the foundation’s work to operationalize its programmatic objectives.

“Kaberi understands at a very deep level how communities work and how a regional foundation such as ours can translate its great ambitions into practical grantmaking that can make the largest possible difference for the future of this community and everything it represents,” said Grant Oliphant, CEO of The Conrad Prebys Foundation. “She leads with humility, integrity and joy, combined with a bedrock commitment to building a truly just society and fostering a community that meets the needs we all share for purpose, opportunity and belonging. She will be a resource not just for The Conrad Prebys Foundation, but also for our partners in the community and the philanthropic sector.”

In addition to her philanthropic experience, Banerjee Murthy brings extensive board experience, currently serving on the board of directors for the Neighborhood Funders Group, Philanthropy Northwest and Portland Art Museum. She has also held previous national board positions with Grantmakers in Education and Asian American Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy, to name a few. She is also a current fellow in the American Leadership Forum. As part of her ongoing commitment to leadership in the philanthropic sector, she has served on the steering committees for the National Education Funders Strategy Group, New York Youth Justice Initiative, Girls and Young Women of Color Fund and the Asian Women’s Giving Circle.

“I am honored to join The Conrad Prebys Foundation team to serve the vibrant and diverse San Diego community and build relationships in service to our shared sense of belonging and justice,” said Banerjee Murthy. “I believe philanthropy has the opportunity to redefine how decisions are made, and I’m eager to work alongside community partners to create trust-based and participatory practices that improve the region.”
