A Note of Gratitude from the CEO

Dear Grantees, Fellow Grantmakers, Community Leaders, and Neighbors:

Thank you for your wisdom, partnership, and patience in the inaugural year of our strategic plan, which focuses on community well-being. Over the course of 2022 and 2023, you informed our strategic plan which we rolled out in February and are now executing. Your participation in our community meetings and the “Belonging Convenings” in May and October– helped us better understand what opportunities lay ahead if we are willing to collaborate, learn alongside our community, and adjust our approach as we grow.

In conversation on the Prebys Podcast, Stop & Talk, and the time we have taken to connect have helped us finalize the remaining grants for 2023. We will announce those grantees–spanning nine portfolios– the first week of December. I hope you will find these grants are another step towards strategic grantmaking to address purpose, opportunity, and belonging across the region to advance community wellness, as promised at the top of 2023.

Your on-the-ground leadership, innovative approaches, and relentless pursuit of impact have challenged and inspired us to refine our strategies, ensuring that our grantmaking aligns with the evolving needs of the communities we aim to serve. It also gives San Diego hope to know that the non-profit community, community leaders, and businesses are willing to build deeper relationships and collaborate to create an inclusive, dynamic, and equitable region.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to advancing excellence and shared opportunity through investments in groundbreaking institutions, ideas, and people in visual and performing arts, medical research, healthcare, and youth success.

I send you, your organization, and your families gratitude this November. I look forward to our continued work together.

Sincerely,

Grant Oliphant
